Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Ravensworth Terrace Primary School

At Ravensworth Terrace, our Early Years provision offers a dynamic balance of teacher-led learning and child-initiated exploration. We create a supportive and stimulating environment—both indoors and outdoors—where children are encouraged to play, enquire, discover, and reflect.

    A Nurturing and Engaging Environment

We believe in the power of hands-on, outdoor learning, and our ‘free flow’ provision allows children to move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces. This approach fosters independence, curiosity, and confidence, helping children feel safe, secure, and ready to explore the world around them.

    Building a Love of Learning

From the very beginning, we encourage children to think and talk about their learning. By using the language of learning, even at a young age, children begin to understand themselves as learners—an early introduction to metacognition. Our pupils thrive on knowledge, love to learn, and enjoy sharing their experiences at home through their World Books.

    Child-Centred and Individualised

Our EYFS themes are designed to be relevant to children’s lives and interests. We place each child’s unique choices at the heart of the classroom, ensuring they feel valued and inspired. We also teach important routines and habits, helping children care for their environment and resources.

    Supporting Independence and Wellbeing

We take time to support children in developing independence, including caring for their physical needs. From hand washing to brushing teeth, we help children understand how to keep their bodies safe and healthy.

    A Holistic Curriculum

Our Reception provision follows the EYFS Framework, focusing on all-round development. This includes key skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, alongside essential goals in social, personal, creative, communication, and physical development.
