Our new friend in Kenya

Following our successful fruit salad sale last term, the children in Year 1 decided they would like to use the profits to sponsor a child in Africa.  We wrote to 'Plan UK' who have found us a little girl in Kenya to sponsor.  Monica is 5 years old and lives with her Dad and two big brothers in Homa Bay.  Their home is made from bamboo and mud with a metal roof and a pit style toilet.  It takes them over an hour to collect water from a river or lake, which they have to do everyday.  Monica attends a primary school and it takes her 45 minutes to walk there.

The children in Year 1 enjoyed finding out about Monica's life and comparing her life to their own.  They wanted to find out more about Monica so we have each written her a postcard telling her about ourselves and asking her some questions too.
