At Ravensworth Terrace, we feel that children cannot learn to their full potential without developing their health and fitness.
Our Vision for Physical Education and Sport
At Ravensworth Terrace Primary School we know that Physical Education plays an important role in the development of our children.
Physical Education leads to improved fitness, health and well-being as well as improved concentration, attitudes and academic achievement. It can help children:
Raise their achievement
Excel in different areas
Build self-esteem and confidence
Learn to co-operate with others and display leadership skills
Experience healthy competition - learn to cope with life’s successes and defeats
To be more responsible for themselves and others
Develop a healthy active lifestyle
Through Physical Education children can develop our values of: Team work, respect, perseverance, independence and kindness – Sport and fitness builds character and helps embed values such as fairness and respect.
We aim to encourage a lifetime love of sport and keeping fit and active and encourage our children to be the best that they can be.
Across the school day, through PE sessions, over break/lunch times and through extra-curricular activity, we aim to ensure children are active and develop a good understanding of healthy lifestyles. All children in KS1 and KS2 have PE every week where they develop games, gymnastics, dance and swimming (Y5) skills. A great many children in our school find that sport is a particular passion and we have various teams which compete in local competitions. The children also run the Daily Mile each day which has had a huge impact on their fitness levels.
Our aim is that children will form a life-long love of sport and exercise, not just for the health benefits but for the joy, sense of pride and achievement that it can bring. We have always had a strong sporting tradition at Ravensworth Terrace but with the support of the Government Sports Premium funding, we have been able to develop our practice through offering a broader range of sporting opportunities, improving our resources and improving the teaching skills of staff.
