Rights Respecting School Award
At Ravensworth Terrace Primary School our motto is; ‘together we are winners’.
We are a Silver Level Rights Respecting School. We have threaded the UN Convention on the Rights of Child (UNCRC) throughout our educational policies and practices in school. We work closely with UNICEF and other right’s respecting schools in Gateshead.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights, by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential. All adults are Duty Bearers and support children in having their rights met.
Being a Rights Respecting School allows our children to know their rights and are respectful, resilient and confident learners within their own education, local community and into wider, global issues.
We have a Rights Respecting Steering Group in school who meet once a term. The children raise messages from their classes and year groups. They work together to identify ways to move forward with campaigns, local community, global issues and other ideas concerning their children’s rights.
